Two bicycle rides, three mechanical issues and two car rides home. Not a stellar record, but it`s all mine :)
I got my bike fixed this morning (to the tune of $53) and decided to take it for a spin today. But I also wanted to hit Crossfit because of the BARBELL COMPLEX, which I totally LOVE. So I cycled up to the box and sweated my way through the WOD. Note: Never do squats in spandex. This WOD was awesome. More on that later.
Ok, moving on, I met up with Erin after the WOD and tried to pump air into my front tire (no thanks to South Shore Cycles who left it low on air) but all I accomplished was flattening the tire even further. Aurgh. I hobbled across Fraser Highway to my office where I hit the bicycle cage and got myself all fixed up. Erin and I cruised down 224th to Zero where we stopped to discuss our direction. We were quite tired already after only a few k`s as we both had other things going on in our lives that kept us from proper nutrition and sleep. I, of course, had Crossfitted so I was a wee bit tired. While we were stopped Erin decided to try and adjust her seat and whamo, another mechanical.
Erin`s mom (bless her heart) picked us up and drove us home. Erin`s moms van has two seats and there were three of us. The math just doesn`t add up. That left me riding cargo in the back of a mini van with two road bikes. It was uncomfortable and very, very dangerous. Totally against all I stand for, not to mention a violation of the Motor Vehicle Act. That`s right my friends, a link to the seatbelt section of the Motor Vehicle Act. It makes for some great, light bedtime reading. Enjoy.
Today`s WOD was barbell sweetness which I why I absolutely had to go to class.
5 Rounds
5 Reps:
DL
Row
Hanging Power Clean
Front Squat
Push Press
Back Squat
Power Jerk
I love the powerful feeling this workout give me and my fellow Crossfitters. I coud hear Leanna grunting away on the other side of the box. I could see the fire in her belly. If she could keep on going and working through the pain in which she appeared to be, then I also had to keep going.
No excuses.
No excuses like, oh I`m so tired from cycling because it had only been 11kms at that point.
No excuses like, oh I only had a protein shake to eat today.
No excuses like, oh I`m wearing spandex riding shorts (sorry to those of you who had to see me like that!).
No excuses like, oh I`m only wearing socks and no shoes.
No excuses like, oh I can`t see through the sweat running down my head and into my eyes.
Those are all horrible excuses and they were not going to keep me from my bar bell complex! This is my faveorite workout (Brandt was right!). I wish I sould explain it as eloquently as Brandt does but alas, I cannot. Maybe it`s the feeling of giving it hell for 5 rounds then throwing the bar down (on the rubber mats as to not injure the ju jitsu mats) and walking away as my partner gets it done. Each time I do the first rep of the round, I think to myself- ok this is really heavy so I`ll only do this one then rest. Next thing I know, I`m done the round and putting more weight on. Next time I`m starting at 75 not 65 and going to 105 or maybe 110. I know I can go heavier. And I will. I just forget and need someone to remind me.
Here`s my numbers:
5x 65lbs
5x 75lbs
5x 85lbs
5x 90.5lbs (we used the 2.75lb plates)
5x 95lbs
2x 100lbs That one was an extra one that Hollie and I threw in at the end just for shits and giggles. And boy oh boy did it ever make me feel like shit but I came out of it giggling.
As for the ride, I`m not going to post a map. Tonights ride was just too pathetic :)

That was fun tonight Jill. You did awesome. As for the rest of your night:)
Why do we love the Complex? Maybe because it's complicated and challenging. I love the feeling of the barbell over my head. After all, it's the natural thing to do with a weight, isn't it?
I hope to work out with you soon. I'll miss Saturday's WOD - I'll be in Victoria.
